Who are we?

The people behind Roos Excavation & Tree Services

You’ve probably seen these two around a bit more locally of late!

Roos Excavation & Tree Services is a locally owned and operated family business, proudly run by Andrew and Nev.

What started with a love of hard work, machinery, trees and the outdoors has grown into a business built around helping people with their properties — from the big jobs right through to the small ones that can make a huge difference.

We’re a hands-on family business, which means when you call Roos, you’re dealing directly with the people behind the business. We take pride in meeting our customers, understanding what they need and making sure the job is done properly from start to finish.

Meet Andrew

Andrew is usually the one you’ll find behind the controls of the excavator, up in a tree, behind a chainsaw or driving around the local area doing quotes.

Over the last few years, he’s probably become a familiar face locally — and these days he’s often out and about meeting customers and checking out the next job!

Andrew started his working career in forestry in the Huon Valley, Tasmania, before moving into operating machinery across civil construction and production mining.

And when we say machinery, we mean machinery!

Andrew’s operated everything from D10 dozers, graders, loaders and excavators to wood chippers, with the biggest machine he’s operated being a 250-tonne excavator.

He’s also got around 7 years of arborist experience, including working up to 21 metres in a bucket in the trees.

From 250-tonne excavators to 21 metres up a tree, Andrew has certainly covered some ground — and plenty of trees!

A little bit about the woodchopper

Before Roos, there was another passion that has been a huge part of Andrew’s life — competitive woodchopping.

Andrew has been competing since he was just 15 years old in Tasmania. He has represented Australia in the Australian U21 team twice and Tasmania in the Tasmanian U21 team.

Andrew’s specialty is cross-cut sawing, including double-handed and the famous Jack & Jill, which Nev and Andrew competed in together.

And while the cross-cut is definitely his specialty, he doesn’t go too badly with an axe either!

Meet Nev

Behind every good family business is usually someone making sure everything else keeps moving — and that’s where Nev comes in.

Nev is a big part of the day-to-day running of Roos, from helping organise jobs and customers to keeping everything moving behind the scenes.

But Nev isn’t exactly a stranger to the work either.

With a shared passion for woodchopping, the outdoors and getting stuck into a job, Nev and Andrew have spent plenty of time working and competing together over the years, along with working in her own day to day job.

Their shared history and friendship have become a big part of what makes Roos what it is today.

For us, Roos isn’t just about excavators, trees and machinery. It’s about people, family, community and doing a good job for the people who trust us with their properties.
